The application of SWOT (strengths strengths, opportunities, weaknesses as well as threats) analysis within a personal situation is a great way to improve one’s skills and removing obstacles, particularly in the area of the planning of career and promotions. It also helps in developing the strategic plan to reach an objective (Simoneaux and Stroud, 2011). My goal is to be an expert with the highest level of qualifications, capable of applying the capabilities and know-how in a wide range of different fields. Since the application of SWOT analysis has proven to be helpful in advancing my career as well, it can be useful to me too (Wislow 2017). In order to successfully apply this tool it is necessary to think about my strengths in addition to my weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Then, I can develop an improvement plan that is based on these attributes to get a competitive edge.

The primary characteristic of SWOT analysis is that the first characteristic of SWOT analysis is the personal strengths. It can help to determine your strengths in comparison to others in the field. From this angle my strengths are primarily related to my ability to quickly learn and adapt when new situations arise (see the Appendix). These are enhanced by the flexibility I display and focus towards people during work. These two aspects contribute to the resolution of conflict within the workplace that is my primary accomplishment. I also maintain my customers’ satisfaction. So, I’m more effective than my colleagues of communication, and many others share this opinion. This is also a way for me to connect with people with people from a different place.

Another consideration is people’s shortcomings that hinder their progressing in their careers and forcing the person concentrate on tasks that are not important. For me my biggest weaknesses are the inability of me to tell “no” to anyone who has asked for help, and my tendency to take on several responsibilities simultaneously (see appendix). These two points are connected since they all contribute to a situation that I can’t take on any task and, which is why I struggle with my efficiency under time pressures.

Another flaw is my inadequate technology skills, which must be developed. This requirement is determined by the demands of today’s business environment and the rapid technological advances. While I do not have negative habits at work and strive to be in compliance with the rules however, certain weaknesses could cause me to lose my job (Coman and Ronen 2009). Concerning the restraining of characteristics of personality that are related to fear or uncertainty, I’m not able to provide none.

The third factor to consider is opportunities. They are external conditions that can either hinder or aid an individual from reaching their goals. In my situation one of the greatest opportunities is the assistance by my extended family (see appendix). This allows me to be confident in situations which I could be unable to succeed, knowing that they won’t abandon me in the face of need. Another benefit is the fact that I have a lot of network of contacts. This is crucial in getting advice or other forms of help when needed. There are also opportunities to establish my own company in the near future.

Furthermore, there are particular patterns in business which require an individual approach to each customer. This is a great opportunity for me too as I have always succeeded when it comes to these matters. Some of my colleagues might have similar abilities, however my experience shows that the CEO of the company tends to assign these tasks to me. This way I can provide solutions to company’s communication issues while using trending trends for my benefit. I am confident in my abilities and knowledge and am able to resolve these issues.

The fourth requirement is threats to my personal growth, which could be more significant than the identified strengths and potentials. They are characterized by high levels of competition in the marketplace, particularly from those with qualifications and educational backgrounds similar to mine, as well as the rising demand for specialists who have experience in technology (see appendix). These risks could be a hindrance to becoming a highly skilled professional and the impact of these threats can be evident in my daily job. As an example I have to struggle with every task that requires the utilization of technology. So, the work environment of my colleagues is far superior to my own. Therefore among my flaws, namely my weak technology skills, is an obstacle to my job advancement. Fortunately the nature of my work doesn’t change, and this lets me adapt to the demands of the company.

An instrument like SWOT analysis helped me discern the precise direction of my strategy for professional development. It’s no wonder that my family and friends’ members’ comments matched the results of the analysis, and their feedback boosted my determination to tackle the issues in order to accomplish my goal. This involves removing the issues that were identified with my technology capabilities and my tendency to undertake more tasks than I am able to complete in order to minimize the risk. Furthermore, the strategy will also include measures to ensure how to make the best use of the identified strengths and potential.

The completed SWOT assessment proved an effective method to determine the direction of my own personal development. The reliability of the analysis is not determined solely by my own perspective, however also my peers and family’s opinions which confirmed the conclusions. So, the implementation of this knowledge as an action plan will help me to achieve my goal and help me become a reputable expert. The perceived insufficiency of taking responsibility can create an opportunity for me to pursue my plans to establish the business.
